He glanced up from his coffee, brows furrowed a little in confusion. Then she gestured at his hand and he looked...and he paused for a minute when his eyes caught the ring. Under the table Gioia shifted to put her head on his foot and he blinked a couple time in rapid succession before absently covering the ring with his other hand.

"He didn't make it home." His voice broke once, but he ignored it and forced himself to look up at his company, a thin smile forced onto his lips. "But he's always with me."
